Toshiba M100 Redhat install problem

I am installing RH Linux 8 on my new Toshiba M100 (dualboot with XP Pro). The installation all went fine but when booting to Linux the Kernal hangs up when it gets to the hard disk (40 g 3enchance IDE ATA-5):

PCI_IDE: unknown IDE controller o nPCI bus 00 device f9, VID=8086, DID=24ca
PCI: Found IRQ 11 for device 00:1f.1
PCI: Sharing IRQ 11 with 01:0b.0
PCI Sharing IRQ 11 with 01:0d.0
PCI_IDE: chipset revision 3
PCI_IDE: not 100% native mode: will probe irqs later
ide0: BM-DMA at 0xbfa0-0xbfa7, BIOS settings: hda: DMA, hdb:pio
ido1: Bm-DMA at 0xbfa8-0xbfaf, BIOS settings: hdc:DMA, hdd:pio
[system hangs here]

Any help appreciated, I am new to Linux installs (only have done a couple of others, but successfully, but not on laptops.

Thanks

"PCI_IDE: unknown IDE controller o nPCI bus 00 device f9, VID=8086, DID=24ca"

Linux knows IDE controllers by their chipset name. The first thing to do is to open up your computer and read the manufacturer's name and model number on your IDE chipset. Then we can work on why your kernel does not recognize the chipset.

You could start with Google and see if Linux supports your chipset.

Thanks for the suggestion. Tried Redhat Linux 9 and that installed just fine. Guess it recognized the chipset ok. Now I have both 8 and 9 running on two different computers!
