Thinkpad X31: no mouse in kernel 2.6.6, Alt-Tab broken

helloo,
I recently installed debian testing on my new ibm x31. I've read a bunch of guides on how to install it but none mentioned myproblems:

I installed kernel 2.4.25 and it worked dandy, then upgraded to 2.6.6. My mouse dissapeared! Xf86 can't load because it can't find /dev/psaux or /dev/input/mouse ... becuase they're not there. The only thing i can find is /dev/input/event0... but i have no idea if that's related or not.

Anyone know how to check if a mouse is detected?

my other odd problem is that in gnome, alt-tab doesn't work. It brings up the window of windows, and I can scroll through them, but doesn't bring up the selected one.

Any ideas or places to turn?

Thanks!
