thinkpad x20 questions

Ive just started using a thinkpad x20
It is PIII 600, 185KRAM, 20G hdd.

I've installed debian 2.6.8 kernel, using gnome.

I have some questions:

1) My / directory is becoming full (everything is on root except for /home). I'd like to remove some things, specifically locales (don't know how they got installed...) and KDE (I use gnome only). How to do this?

2) The documentation for this thinkpad mentions APM (doesn't specifically say it is supported, or whether it might really be APCI. Anyone know this for sure?

3) Whether it is APM or the other, what tools are available for stepping the cpu, lowering power us on battery, monitoring, etc.

4) Any other suggestions for the 'perfect' thinkpad setup.

try apt-get clean or autoclean commands. Check your /var/log/messages file. Your firewall may be logging too much of data.

Thanks I'll check /var.

I did a

du -hc and found some big files that I could delete. Then i went into synaptic and unselected everything to do with KDE, and a few other things. Seems to be okay now. I also removed some old kernels and source trees.

I tested apm by letting the thing run on batteries till it 'dies'. Turns out it only runs on batteries about 45 minutes, but at least i do get a waring with about 10minutes to spare. Then it actually suspends. I plug it back in, and it comes back up nicely!

Also, i've got a cpu frequency thingy that indicates the processor goes from 600 to 500mhz when power is removed.

So i guess everything is solved.

Well I'd still be interested in opinions of other laptop users about the best kinds of utilities and apps, things a laptop should always have - like that....

Anyone?
