thinkpad fan embedded controller update

Hello,

I'm running Debian Etch on a T42 Thinkpad. I'm having problems with the fan pulsing annoyingly. IBM has released an update to the embedded fan controller which should supposedly fix this problem, but the update is ONLY available for windows!

I now use tp-fancontrol, which makes the fan much quieter than it was before, but it still pulses regularly.

I have tried using wine to install the official update, but it unsurprisingly didn't work. Any other suggestions?

Thanks
