Thinkpad 600 not using whole screen for xwindows

I just installed slackware on my Thinkpad 600 and everything is fine, except there is a about a 1in margine around my screen that xwindows just isn't using. Slackware makes use of the whole screen on bootup, but as soon as I run startx I go right to this 1in margine thing. Which is really annoying. There must be some setting I'm missing.

Are you sure you're using the right resolution?

Sorry I took so long getting back.

No, I'm not sure my resolution is good. But I can't figure out how to change it.

Resolution isn't anywhere in the menus or the documentation. My web searching keeps bringing my back to some Xorg command that can do everything except set the screen resolution. Sorry, still new to Linux.

thanks for any help.

I am new too, but I know screen resolution is set in the xorg.conf or the XF86Config file. sometimes located in /etc/X11 if not use the locate command to find it.
