Thinking about getting a new laptop. Suggestions?
I know this has been asked before, but it's been a while, and the other threads I read had posts from people looking for something different, so here it goes again.
I'm planning on buying a laptop soon. I want to use it to replace my desktop, as my desktop is old, and slow now. However, I don't want some beast that'll be annoying to carry around. The screen should, ideally, be less than 15". I intend to put Ubuntu 8.10 on it, so it should work well with that. It should have at least 2 GB RAM, at least 120 GB hard drive. About a 2 GHz processor. I want a good graphics card: 3D hardware acceleration, should be able to handle any recent games. I'd like a Blu-ray player on it (do those work alright in Linux?), but DVD would be fine. It should have built-in Wi-fi (at least G), and Bluetooth. That should be about it. It would be nice to find something like that with Linux pre-installed, failing that, one with nothing installed. Of course, I can just remove Windows, if it has that. I just don't want to pay the Microsoft tax. |
Maybe check http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...nd-netbook-25/ for experiences?

Well I have an HP dv6000 but the screen is bigger than you want. It is light weight though and Linux runs quite well on it.
