Temperature sensors on Acer Aspire 4736z
 

I recently bought an Acer Aspire 4736z and installed a Ubuntu 9.04 on it. I use the apps such as hddtemp and the gnome sensor applets to recognize real-time temperature and of course the ACPI packages are also included.

Temperature on the Linux system is usually around 45-50. However, when I switch immediately to the Windows XP system that uses the Speedfan application, a readout of 50-60 is observed.

To me...it raises an alarm since there is a difference in temperature between the two system. Is there a way to get a consistent readout? This makes me a bit reluctant to use the Linux system since the temperature is higher.

Last time I checked, 45-50 for Linux is lower than 50-60 for Windows.

The numbers are confusing. Indeed it is 45-50 on Linux but switching immediately to Windows XP and using Speedfan reveals a readout of around 50-60. This means that the heat is consistently rising when the system is using the Linux OS. Could it be that they missed out something on this model particularly the Intel 82801IB ICH9 SMBUS?

I'm sorry but I just don't agree with your assumption about the rising temperature. I could just as easily assume that the Windows boot process is heating up your computer by 5-10 degrees.

Hmmm....never thought about that. In any case...I'll just stay vigilant and observe if an imminent problem shows up. Thanks for the insight. I'll keep this thread after a few days of observation.
