I'm sorry to be asking this, as I know a lot has already been said on this topic, but I'm struggling here. I received my new 5600 yesterday - great! I've managed to get it to sync very easily with my Windows XP machine, but just can't get it to speak to Redhat, running Qtopia. I've read many how-tos, but nothing seems to work completely. Where I'm at now is that Qtopia seems to see the PDA - it says 'Inspecting installed packages' in the status bar, for instance, but it won't sync. What to do? If it's impossible with Qtopia, can anyone recommend other desktop software that _will_ work?
I just got mine last week and I love it . With the wireless card and some SD memory, its like having a linux laptop in my pocket.
from what I can tell, everyone has problems syncing with linux OS is general. I haven't tried yet, because I am still playing with it on windows. Another thing - there area ton of open source projects out there like OpenZaurus and others which will replace the sharp OS on your 5600 - except, as of today I dont think any of them have a clean sync operation designed and built that works.
Sharp seems to have stopped supporting the device in anticipation of its new 6000 (which is BS, but what can you do).
But because it is linux, and there are a ton of fans of this device out there, there is still a ton of independent development going on.

they have a really active forum and incredibly helpful folks there. And check out the How-Tos and file servers there as well. This is where you will ge tthe most up-to-date report ont he state of the zaurus.
although i have never gotten my Z settled enough yet to start using them PIM type apps, couldnt you simply use NFS and write a script to check the files involved to see which one is newer and copy the newer ones over the older ones? assuming you have a network card(or didnt i even see something about networking with usb and the cradle?)

Thanks to all - seems I'm stuck. I thought I might look into running the Windows version of Qtopia with Wine. That said, I've never managed to run anything with Wine - guess that'd be a different thread, though... So there's no other desktop IPM I could use under Linux? And are there no older versions of Qtopia in Linux that are compatible with Z?
