Suspend-to-ram == Malformed Packets

Not really a laptop issue, but figured the laptop forumn
may have the best info on Suspend-to-ram...

I have a Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H motherboard with onboard
Realtek 8111C 10/100/1000 onboard network. Mandriva auto detected
the network using the r8169 driver.

I've been trying to get STR (S3) working and I'm so close, but
yet so far. BTW, suspend to disk (s4) works perfectly.

Using s2ram -f, with X running, the machine goes down gracefully,
and hitting the power button brings it back, X still working, keyboard,
mouse, everything working except the network.

I've tried downing the network, even unloading the r8169 module before,
nothing helps. ifconfig shows the network as up with the correct
static ip address (no change if I use DHCP).

As I started digging into it more, if I run wireshark on the machine when
it comes back, and ping it from another machine, wireshark reports
the packets coming in, but they are all labeled "Malformed Packet".
Everything is "Malformed Packet". Same test using STD works fine.

I'm running Mandriva 2008.1 with an upgrade/custom
2.6.25.4 kernel. I have noticed a driver on the Realtek web
site, but it doesn't build correctly.

Does anyone have any ideas, or suggestions of how to
continue diagnosing the problem?

I am having the same problem but with windows XP.... did you find a soultion?

bfoddy 07-29-2008 07:32 PM

Nothing yet. I was hoping the 2.6.26 kernel would help, but while I haven't exhausted everything, it looks like it made things much worse. With 2.6.25 it would at least power the machine down in either S2R or S2D modes, now it goes down and just bounces back to life again. There may be something I'm missing, but I haven't made any progress yet. Disappointing for sure...

I updated to the F5 bios and it fixed the problem for me

Interesting... I'll have to explore what I'm running.

I'm running F3 right now, I remember upgrading when I built the machine. However when I look on the website, I only see a F4 dated 6/18/2008. Where did you find an F5 bios?
I'm looking at:

I just realised I have a different board I have the GA-MA78G-S2H, but it has the same LAN card.
I actualy asked gigabyte at http://ggts.gigabyte.com.tw/ and they were the ones who told me to update the bios.
Sorry I couldnt be of anymore help.
Does S3 resume work on different OS systems, I can tell you when my card was failing to work after resume the LAN light on my router never showed active after resuming
