Suspend on Thinkpad T43 (1875 DMU)
 

I am running Fedora Core 4 on my T43 1875 DMU and everything works great, except suspend. I have pretty much given up on making this work.

I am wondering if anyone has been able to get suspend to work on my particular model (1875 DMU)? It would have to be with FC4 or FC5 as I am working toward my RHCE. I have experienced several different problems when trying to get it working including (1) will not wake up (2) HD wakes, but screen does not (3) wakes but goes back to sleep immediately. I think I was pretty close when I could get the HD to wake, but not the screen and I'm pretty sure it was a setting related to the video card.

An alternative to suspend would be to turn off the screen when I close the lid, but I haven't been able to figure that one out either.

Battery life in this model is terrible. It would be nice if I could turn off the backlight/screen if I need to step away for a few minutes rather than shut down.

I have seen numerous pages regarding this topic, but none have really worked. The Linux on Laptops site was the best. If you have a link you think will get me pointed in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

In Fedora Core 5, they switched to gnome-power-manager which, I believe - has suspend support.

You may be able to download and compile gnome-power-manager into FC4, but I'm not aware of how difficult this would be.

Adding gnome-power-manager has some pros and cons compared to what I've been used to, but overall it seems like a good package.

You should use yum (check core extra repositories only) and update following packet:

dbus 0.61-3.fc5-1 (and related like dbus-glab,dbus-x11 ...)
gnome-power-manager 2.14.3-1
