Here, just follow the following instructions (all done in a terminal) and you'll be suspending and resuming in notime.
Suspend and Resume
sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst
add: "acpi=off apm=on" to kernel line (no quotes)
sudo gedit /etc/modules
add: "apm" to list (no quotes)
Then, getting sound to work after u resume from a suspend:
Sound After Resume
sudo /etc/init.d/alsa-conf restart
