suse 9 installation

hello there

been having a ruff time installing suse 9. The laptop hangs when probing the usb devices.

I tried to cancel the probling during the intial installation and installed suse. The new problem that seems to appear is that when booting from the hard drive, the system starts all the services and then suddenly kills then and terminates.

I tried booting from the boot cd, that works and i can login.

anyone?

thanx in advance

I would start by playing with bios settings to see if one of them is the cause. ACPI can be troublesome sometimes on laptops, as well as legacy USB support and the like. Turn off a bios feature, reboot, turn off another feature, reboot, etc until you find what the issue is. It may not be a setting in bios, but it is a good start.

First, it would move our discussion off of the theoretical, and on to the practical, if you were to drop a hint as to what make and model this laptop was. Not that I would want us to get lost in the details

Second, try rebooting with all of the USB devices unplugged. This seems to work most of the time.
