suse 9.3 pro and ibm thinkpad r32

Hello?

I'm fairly new to Linux and basically have two questions on
SuSE 9.3 Prfessional and IBM ThinkPad R32 laptop.

1. The default install automatically shuts down the laptop
at the end of the install. If I do "acpi=off" for the boot option,
the laptop boots normally. I vaguely understand that ACPI is
ralated to some power management. What am I losing if do
"acpi=off" for the boot option?

2. SuSE recognizes the built in Agere modem and I configured
it correctly. If I try to initiate the dial-up connection, the system
hangs. Any workarounds?

Thanks.

To hello,

Thanks for your sharing. It's good to know that
SuSE 9.1 works fine but I need SuSE 9.3 to work.

Regards,

Try to initialize the modem by an ATX1 command (Yast->Modem, initialization command).
I had the same problem with my Thinkpad and now its working wonderful (Thinkpad a31p, Suse 9.3)

Regards

Hi christof,

Thanks for your sharing with me.

This issue has been put aside for a while.
Definitely, I'll try that soon.

Regards,

Well christof,

Sadly, that does not work for R32.

As soon as I initiate the dial up connection,
my mouse freezes as well as the system clock
immediately.

The modem is recognized as "Intel AC97" modem
even though it is Agere/Lucent modem.

As far as the automatic shutdown after a complete
boot, this still happens unless I add the "acpi=off"
boot option.

Has anyone experienced these in R32 with SuSE 9.3 Pro?
If so, any workarounds or fixes?

Thanks.
