I'm about to install 9.1 personal on my Compaq r3000 notebook, just have a couple of quetions, how do you get it to hybernate? is there any way to get back the dvd playback function? how compatible is it with a notebook? thanx for anyone able to answer these questions.
I can't help you with the hibernate question but I ran suse 9.0 on my laptop (Gateway 5300) and was able to run by dvd ok. This site might help:http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/xine/
i knew i was asking for trouble but i didnt want windows on my shiny new lappy. having ran suse 9 on my pc you a while now i thought it time to buy 9.1. as suse comes in both 32bit and 64bit versions i went halfers with a mate of mine and i got the 64bit set)) the lappy is as follows:
tiny mediabook MK64 - 3200+
Processor: athlon 64 3200+
Mem: 1024 ddr
80gig hdd partitioned with 60 gig for suse (used pm then shrunk the partition with windows to 20 gig, then let suse have the un allocated space)
dvd-rw
radeon ati 9600 mobility 128meg
wireless of the .11b variety
and a multi format card reader.
i installed it this morning and have spent about 2 hrs gettin all the updates etc and installin things like firefox, at first all seemed well but now its starting to behave a bit sluggish, i would have expected a supper fast lappy but it runs worse than my 1.33 athlon with 1gig sdram pc. not happy. i still have not tinkered with any settings yet as i just poped to the forums for help before i do so, all i can say about the install streight from the disk is that it worked, but its going to take a serious ammount of setting up to get the mostout of it. my graphics card cant have 3d enabled, wireless not playing the game, multicard reader not there, scroll bar thing not working, the auto mount thingy, klipper i think wont play with my usb disk. on the pluss side, i have a dvd burner working fine, networking was a sinch to setup, and its not windows.
as i said, just starting to tinker now but will let you know how thingsare going.
For dvd play back, and divX if thats your thing, you can get the libraries containing the codecs from the xine website w32codec and libdvdcss (i think. the libdvdcss is for dvd playback)
well, suse was fine, not a problem. windows however... im now looking at a GTparted screen while i remove my suse partitions and remove the mbr. went on to windows, downloaded the updates (20meg, not bad as its all of 4 days out the box) and now it wont boot at all. not even 'safe mode' can help here. i have not got a clue as to what went wrong but i thought the good old restore cd that came with my pc would save the day. alas, no such luck. it bombs out with the 'invalid header' excuse everytime and i aint got a clue why. guessed at my partition tinkering giving it a headache so back to fat32 for me (( i may have to call tiny at £1 a min to get this sorted out ((
