Ello all
I get the 'monitor didnt supply x and y size' message on start up.I have tried everything in yast and sax2 with no luck.I am a linux newbie,and so need all the help i can get.The display size I have is to small,and when i manually change x and y to the correct sizes the font size just gets smaller....the display doesnt get bigger!If someone could help me that would be great........before I resort to going back to windows:-(

~next step is to dive into xfree86 config or Xconfigurator using that info

Well its a Dell latitude cpt 500mhz,ati mach 64 graphics card.Ive tried xf86config but so far no luck......your help will be very much appreciated!

I have a Dell Latitude CPx of similar spec and giving the same symptoms with Suse 9.1.
Nothing I did seemed to make any difference. However...
I have just tried a re-install and found that if you specify 1024x768 for the install (use the F2 key on the announcement screen) YAST and SAX default to this during the hardware config.
Now don't ask me why that works............

Suse latituded resolution
 
I went into /boot/grub/menu.lst and changed vga = 0x314 to 0x317
this seemed to work...
