Arrow Suse 10 Freezing Part way through instal

Hi

I am quite new to linux but decided to take the plunge and move away from windows, it seems to make sense - more secure, cheaper and more options for expansion/upgrades

The only problem I am having is during the install

Everything runs through perfectly until it comes to writing the driver files

it freezes at etc/modprobe.conf

I tried clicking abort - nothing happens, I even left it overnight incase it was just a part of the installation that takes a while but nothing.

Could someone please advise a way around this. The install is going on a Packard Bell Easynote Laptop

SUSE requires at least 96MB of ram and 6GB of disk space. I've found it to be slow with 256MB of ram; and if you're installing everything it'll take about 10GB of disk space. The installation process is slow. For me on a good day it takes about six hours, on a i686 with 192MB of ram and 40GB of disk space. Try to partition your hard drive manually, make your swap partition twice the size of your ram, format your partitions, activate your swap partition, and then try to install.

If your migrating from windohs to linux I would also write all zeros to the drive to get a clean slate. You can use a live cd like knoppix and use the command "dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/(insert drive)" I think thats it. That'll give you that fresh clean feeling.
