Suse 10.1 - HP Pavilion ze2000 - Wireless not working!

Hi there!

I have a HP Pavilion ze2000. Actually that's what's written on the machine. If I see on it's receipt says HP Pavilion ze2315.

I got the Suse 10.1 and installed it on my machine very easily. The mouse (wireless) is working and the sound as well. I could even hear the noise when you start the GNOME.

However, the wireless Broadcom it's not working. On the hardware devices I can find it there but it doesn't appear on the Network Devices. Also, the buttons to control the Notebook's sound is not working.

I know that with the ndiswrapper I can install the windows drivers (i have the HP's DVD with me). But as I'm a Linux beginner I didn't get exactly how to do it. Through YaST I installed one of the NTFS ndiswrapper available on the list. But now what should I do? Am I going to be able to run the HP's Driver DVD on Linux or will I have to copy somehow the files to a cetain directory on Suse 10.1?

Thanks a lot.

I have not paid that much attention to it, but it does seem that people running SUSE 10.1 are having more problems setting up their wireless than with version 10.0. You might also consider installing 10.0 (eval or retail version) instead.

PS: Let me add that any Linux distribution can be set up to run wireless, but when you are new, it can be confusing and frustrating. In my opinion, SUSE 10.0 is the easiest of the lot.

Suse 10.1 is working just fine with wireless. Most of the people having problems are just having problems with the new network management methods. He said his card is a broadcom. Suse is not going to set this up without the appropriate drivers being compiled and installed first. Broadcom chipsets don't work without extra effort from the user.

your best bet is using ndiswrapper and the windows driver for Broadcom chipsets. I have thePavilion ze2308, and it works fine using ndiswrapper
