SUSE 10.0 on Thinkpad 600 USB and Network card problem

I have installed SUSE 10.0 on two thinkpads T41 and 600.
The DLink card DWL-650 works fine in T41 and usb hotplugging
also works fine in T41. However, both these features do not work in Thinkpad 600. It does not detect the card at all.
When I inster a usb flash disk it too is not detected at all. Does anybody have a clue as to what is going on.

How old is the thinkpad 600. The Dlink 650 is a cardbus card and
will not work with notebooks that only accept PCMCIA cards.
Could this be the problem?
