suggestion needed to buy new laptop

first of all my budget is $800 - $900 only

i am now using FC6 in my pc.i am expecting it to work well in my laptop also.

what are the chipsets and other hardware supported by linux.

fast processor/better graphics card (for games)
& wired/wireless lan connectivity r must.

my idea is AMD Turion-64 or intel Core Duo Centrino processor.

Depends on where you live it's enough to buy a nice laptop or not even a DVD burner ;)

If you want to use FC6 on your laptop, check the FC web site for supported hardware. All the major distros maintain info on supported processors, NICs, etc.

Each distro is different. So you have to pick a distro and find out.

It's a good idea to burn a live CD for any distro you want to run and see if it will work on the laptop in the store before you buy it. Then you won't have any surprises.

I just bought an Acer 1500-5840 from Circuit City. It is a 64bit dual core AMD TL-52 with 2gig of ram. Video is 1280x800 using an ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 ( Seen as an Radeon 200 during graphical install ). Videao can be set up to 512meg. From what I can tell it uses 256 meg dedicated and expand up to 512meg using share ram from the 2gig memory. It has an Atheros based wireless card and will use madwifi module ( I use the dkms support rpm to automatically rebuild the ATI and Madwifi modules on a new kernel reboot). A very cool tool. With madwifi had it up in minutes using it plain or with WEP, WPA, and WPA2. Ethernet nic is fine. The sdcard reader and webcam so far do not work but have not spent the time to get them to work. the DVD is +-R/RW/RAM drive. Can quickly and easy use DVD-RAM disc format as UDF once the UDF tools rpm is installed. Battery time run is close to 2 hours depending on usage. Enabling some cpu control and disc control can extend to over 2 hours but not by much. Lmsensors can pick up the CPU temp and hddtemp can pick up the sata 160gig drive temperature. Oh yeah the price I paid was $899.00 was in one yesterday and was down to $849.00.

I install RHEL 5 x86_64 release and works quite well. FC6 should not differ by much if any. All are part of the Redhat family type of distros.

I consider it fairly quick but does lack a good video chipset features overall but is quite addicate for me. Love using both processors to build a kernel in less than half the time it normally takes on a single core unit.

My only dislike is the screen resolutions. Only other choice is an HP but lacked pcmcia support.

If I felt I could get the full use of this one I would get it but cost is well over $3000.00 but looks fairly compatiable to everything except the sdcard reader. A Nova 989W.
