Successfully installing Kanotix/Knoppix packages from Klik
 

I have successfully installed Kanotix on my Toshiba Satellite 1405-s151. It runs well and without any obvious problems.

Getting the installed version online required a non-intuitive process described elsewhere (look for a thread here on wifi and kanotix), but was easy and fast in the end.

Installing extra software from Klik was not obvious, but I followed the instructions on their home page and experimented with a few packages. Each time, I received the following error report:

Your /etc/fstab is not yet prepared for mounting .cmg images.
As root, please make /tmp/app writeable and add the following lines:

Since there was no /tmp/app folder, I was a little confused, but thought about this for a while and went the following route:

Using Konqueror I navigated to /etc and right-clicked on fstab, choosing the option (under "actions") to edit the file as root. Once in the default editor (KWrite) I added the lines listed above and saved the file.

Again using Konqueror I navigated to /tmp and created a directory (folder) called "app" and changed its permissions to make it writable by any user.

The executable files had been saved to the desktop, and clicking them now started up the applications.
