Startup impossible after battery depletion shutdown w/ eee pc 1000
 

I get two flashing screens after the system startup screen comes up a couple seconds. They are one with a cursor and another that is entirely blank.

Help, Asus wants me to send it in, they haven't provided Tech Support over the phone. Can I boot the system from a 2gb SD card? Is there a way to repair the system. I'm a newbie, just got the cpu in late October, school starts in a week and I can't afford to ship or wait for it.

If you have nothing important on it, just do an F9 restore, the manual will tell you how.

Well, I don't think anyone will have much of a clue how to fix it without doing a full restore, since any number of things could have been corrupted when you ran the battery totally dead. Asus won't do anything but the F9 restore, without caring about your personal data.

To recover the files you have on there, you can try booting a Linux distribution meant for recovery. Use the directions for installing it onto a USB thumb drive, it will work fine on the SD card. To boot from the SD card, hit 'Esc' when first booting, it will bring up a menu that will allow you to boot from the card.

After you have everything backed up, run the F9 restore, which will bring it back to the condition it was in out of the box.

For the future, don't run the battery totally dead again, it is not only bad for your data, it is bad for your battery.

I plugged an external DVD-RW Drive and ran the recovery DVD reinstalling the OS without having to format my personal information on the other partition. The computer is still having the same glitch. I guess I have no choice but to send it in at this point. Thankfully I got my student financial aid today so I can afford it now. Too bad it's been frozen for a month and asus hasn't been helpful either at call backs or emailing me the information to send it in.

I'll be sure to post what the actual problem was. I will sure as hell not fall asleep without pluggin this thing in again. Is there and setting to put it on shut down if it runs low on battery power?
