Starting problem...please help....

i just bought an acer laptop that comes with linpus linux. the prob now is that when i boot my pc, it goes straight into some kind of dos thing with the word grub there and end up with this message [root@localhost /]#. I have no idea to deal with it. How to proceed into window/desktop? Can any 1 help?

Hi and welcome to LQ.

When you get to the login prompt (the root@localhost bit), add a user by entering the commands below
useradd someuser
passwd someuser
Make sure that you substitute "someuser" with the actual name you want. After that exit as root (you enter "exit" to logout) and then login as the new user and enter the command startx to run a GUI.

GRUB is your "bootloader" its the software that loads the operating system.
