squashing multiple bugs using suse 11.1 and ibm thinkpad t42

After my last t42 blew up I upgraded my last distro 10.2 to suse 11.1 using a new t42 and just switching the hard drive.

So far, I have almost everything working with a few exceptions.

using "lspci" I have the following graphics card:

Code:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500]
The default ati graphics work but I cant get fglrx 3d to work. I tried going the down the proprietor driver route without success.

While my cam, a logictech pro 4000 works in skype, it does not in kopete or on any flash webcam chats.

luvcview 0.2.4

SDL information:
Video driver: x11
A window manager is available
Device information:
Device path: /dev/video0
ERROR opening V4L interface: No such file or directory

compiling vmware 5.5 has been murder. I can't get that or virtual box to work. I ended with multiple kernels as follows:

kernel-default-devel-2.6.31.5-jen91
kernel-xen-extra-2.6.27.45-0.1.1
kernel-default-base-2.6.27.45-0.1.1
kernel-source-2.6.31.5-jen91
kernel-source-rt-2.6.31.5-jen91
kernel-xen-2.6.27.45-0.1.1
kernel-rtpae-devel-2.6.31.5-jen91
kernel-pae-2.6.27.45-0.1.1
kernel-trace-base-2.6.27.45-0.1.1
kernel-default-2.6.27.45-0.1.1
kernel-pae-base-2.6.27.45-0.1.1
nfs-kernel-server-1.1.3-18.3.1
kernel-syms-2.6.31.5-jen91
kernel-rt-2.6.31.5-jen91
kernel-rt-devel-2.6.31.5-jen91
kernel-default-extra-2.6.27.45-0.1.1
linux-kernel-headers-2.6.27-2.28
kernel-xen-base-2.6.27.45-0.1.1
kernel-pae-devel-2.6.31.5-jen91

vmware complains of gcc 4.3.2 but a different version is needed gcc 4.3.

I'm lost on what to do????
