special keys of laptop

Hello.

I have a laptop iPower from HP, and it has 4 special buttons. I use only Linux on my laptop, and the driver for keyboard does not recognize these buttons at all.
In Windows one uses the "esb" program ("Easy start buttons") that can be found on line on HP page. When ESB is not running, Windows does not recognize these buttons, too.

Does nobody knows how can I make these buttons be recognized by Linux? Any suggestions about a driver for linux? Or does nobody know the ports/memory addresses at with these buttons runs in order for me to write a driver?

I wrote a message on HP lists, and I received no answer. The laptop had support just for Windows.

Yepp, it's quite easy (if you know what your'e doing... but that's the case with everything isn't it). There's a great howto on gentoo-wiki.org, nothing gentoo-specific. http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Use_Multimedia_Keys

I use fluxbox which is very easy to make keybindings in so when the keys were recogniced by the program xev, I only had to give the keys names. Everything is in the howto. Good luck!

I asked the same question once. I got great help from the replies. You can read it here

samel_tvom is right. Once you get the codes (some buttons might not respond so...no code) it's easy to apply a function to them.
