sound problems on laptop

I have gone through this with someone already and they could not figure it out.

1. My sound card is supported (Intel Corp. 82801DB (ICH4) Sc'97 Audio Controller (Rev 01))
2. Audio will play in xmms, the bars will move, the volume slider is in the middle, but there is no sound.
3. When i use a mixer (aumix) it will complain about no such device and will not open.

Thanks.

EDIT-I already did alsaconf and still didnt work.

I have the exact same chipset and had the same prob. Worked initially then crapped out playing a movie in Xine one day and wouldn't work again even after reboot. After much googling to no avail I started playing with sound options in YaST and found that setting buggy_irq = 1 fixed the problem for me. Unfortunately I don't know how YaST passes that parm to the module -- probably a config file somewhere tho.
