sound problem in Suse 10.2

Sorry if my english bad... and irrelevant questions (I think)
I have laptop zx5000 series (zx5078cl) with specs :
Mobile Intel Pentium 4 3.06 Ghz
Ram 1 Gb
HDD 60 GB

The problem description is like this :
I play MP3 with amarok and running in battery mode it's all fine. but when I plug into AC adapter amarok hangs I've tried with helix banshee, it also hangs.
I tried by adding some parameter in grub (menu.lst) like acpi=off and other parameter like acpi_irq_nobalance pci=noacpi pnpacpi=off but the amarok still hangs.

Anyone get idea how to get this all working without uninstalling ACPID package?

What audio mixer are you using? There are plenty of posts where OSS causes laptops to do strange things.

If you are using OSS then try another mixer as an easy first step. I use ALSA with SuSE 10.2 and it works just fine.

It is an included package in SuSE or get it direct from http://www.alsa-project.org/

KMix is simply a user interface, the mixer is the module that talks to your sound card and can be viewed as something similar to the driver in Windows terms.

You may not have ALSA installed. To check open YaST and choose 'Software management'.

Put 'ALSA' in the search box and you should see a long list which starts with 'alsa'. If it is installed then the entry will have a tick in the box.

If it isn't installed check the boxes next to;

alsa
alsa-devel
alsaguimixer
kalsatools

and anything else that you would like to play with.

When it is installed use YaST to configure or open a shell such as Bash and run alsaconf.
