Hello,

I have recently updated to SuSE10.0 my Thinkpad R40 laptop.

Since the update, I am unable to use sound: the alsa
drivers are loaded, the hardware is recognized as AC'97 and
configured, but I am unable to get any sound, for instance
neither skype nor the KDE sounds work.

Under SuSE9.3 the sound was working fine, and it
still works fine under Windows XP.

I suspect some relation with aRTs, since when I try
to configure the KDE sound system, and leave the defaults
options which include hardware autodetection, the
configuration hangs when restarting the sound system.

Sorry if this subject has been covered already: I went
through the forums and I tried some solutions, like disabling
modem drivers, but I failed till now.

I have found a fix for my problem in the bugzilla system
on the Novell site: here is the link

Basically, go in the mixer and turn off the Headphone Jack Sense
and Line Jack Sense switches.

This worked for me and might work for others.
