Sound and CD-Rom -- Ubuntu 9.04 and Asus K50IJ-X006 laptop
Hi,
I am having trouble with my Ubuntu 9.04 on my Asus K50IJ-X006 laptop. The installation went smoothly, however, I am having trouble mounting the cd-rom as well as having sound played. The laptop came with drivers, but the drivers are ONLY Vista based. Oddly enough, the cd-rom had worked fine during installation of Ubuntu. The following are an example of two terminal sessions regarding my cd-rom: Ign cdrom://Ubuntu 9.04 _Jaunty Jackalope_ - Release i386 (20090420.1) jaunty Release.gpg Ign cdrom://Ubuntu 9.04 _Jaunty Jackalope_ - Release i386 (20090420.1) jaunty/main Translation-en_US Ign cdrom://Ubuntu 9.04 _Jaunty Jackalope_ - Release i386 (20090420.1) jaunty/restricted Translation-en_US Ign cdrom://Ubuntu 9.04 _Jaunty Jackalope_ - Release i386 (20090420.1) jaunty Release Ign cdrom://Ubuntu 9.04 _Jaunty Jackalope_ - Release i386 (20090420.1) jaunty/main Packages Ign cdrom://Ubuntu 9.04 _Jaunty Jackalope_ - Release i386 (20090420.1) jaunty/restricted Packages Ign cdrom://Ubuntu 9.04 _Jaunty Jackalope_ - Release i386 (20090420.1) jaunty/main Packages Ign cdrom://Ubuntu 9.04 _Jaunty Jackalope_ - Release i386 (20090420.1) jaunty/restricted Packages Err cdrom://Ubuntu 9.04 _Jaunty Jackalope_ - Release i386 (20090420.1) jaunty/main Packages Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD-ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD-ROMs Err cdrom://Ubuntu 9.04 _Jaunty Jackalope_ - Release i386 (20090420.1) jaunty/restricted Packages Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD-ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD-ROMs Hit http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty Release.gpg Ign http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Translation-en_US Ign http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/restricted Translation-en_US Ign http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/universe Translation-en_US Ign http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/multiverse Translation-en_US Hit http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-updates Release.gpg Ign http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-updates/main Translation-en_US Ign http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-updates/restricted Translation-en_US Ign http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-updates/universe Translation-en_US Ign http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-updates/multiverse Translation-en_US Hit http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty Release Hit http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-updates Release Hit http://archive.canonical.com jaunty Release.gpg Ign http://archive.canonical.com jaunty/partner Translation-en_US Hit http://security.ubuntu.com jaunty-security Release.gpg Ign http://security.ubuntu.com jaunty-security/main Translation-en_US Hit http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages Hit http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/restricted Packages Hit http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Sources Hit http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/restricted Sources Hit http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/universe Packages Hit http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/universe Sources Hit http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/multiverse Packages Hit http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/multiverse Sources Ign http://security.ubuntu.com jaunty-security/restricted Translation-en_US Ign http://security.ubuntu.com jaunty-security/universe Translation-en_US Ign http://security.ubuntu.com jaunty-security/multiverse Translation-en_US Hit http://security.ubuntu.com jaunty-security Release Hit http://archive.canonical.com jaunty Release Hit http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-updates/main Packages Hit http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-updates/restricted Packages Hit http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-updates/main Sources Hit http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-updates/restricted Sources Hit http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-updates/universe Packages Hit http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-updates/universe Sources Hit http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-updates/multiverse Packages Hit http://pl.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-updates/multiverse Sources Hit http://security.ubuntu.com jaunty-security/main Packages Hit http://archive.canonical.com jaunty/partner Packages Hit http://security.ubuntu.com jaunty-security/restricted Packages Hit http://security.ubuntu.com jaunty-security/main Sources Hit http://security.ubuntu.com jaunty-security/restricted Sources Hit http://security.ubuntu.com jaunty-security/universe Packages Hit http://archive.canonical.com jaunty/partner Sources Hit http://security.ubuntu.com jaunty-security/universe Sources Hit http://security.ubuntu.com jaunty-security/multiverse Packages Hit http://security.ubuntu.com jaunty-security/multiverse Sources W: Failed to fetch cdrom://Ubuntu 9.04 _Jaunty Jackalope_ - Release i386 (20090420.1)/dists/jaunty/main/binary-i386/Packages Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD-ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD-ROMs W: Failed to fetch cdrom://Ubuntu 9.04 _Jaunty Jackalope_ - Release i386 (20090420.1)/dists/jaunty/restricted/binary-i386/Packages Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD-ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD-ROMs E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. The sound just does noes work at all. I am thinking that I need the appropriate and compatible driver, or perhaps lines of code would do the trick. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am quite frankly sick and tired of Windows and would love to make Ubuntu work for me. |
Try the following in a terminal
ls -l /dev/cdrom This should give a line like lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2009-09-06 16:00 /dev/cdrom -> hda that last bit is your cdrom device, in my case, hda. then sudo modprobe iso9660 sudo mount /dev/whatever /mnt/ Tell us how this breaks down and what each error is. |
