sound and acpi on presario 2100

Hello all.
i`ve just installed slack 9.1 on my compaq presario 2100. i had to recompile the kernel in order to get the acpi. now thats when i get some problems with my soundcard.
if i try to compile both acpi and my soundcard i get an error during make menuconfig, it says it cannot attach/detach some pci.

if i try to install the soundcard as a module, i get no errors during compilation, but when i start up the computer after it cannot find the soundmodule. i`ve looked for it, but no trace of it.

don`t know if this makes sense to anyone. i`ve checked the sites i could find on this issue (even a french one, guessing the contents).

regards
