Sony Vaio PCG-GRT390z, sonypi problems

Okay, I'm using Ubuntu 5.04 "Hoary" with a Sony Vaio PCG-GRT390Z. Everything works fine aside from the function keys. This isn't a huge deal, but I would love to get them to work inside of Linux. This prompted my websearch for a simple walktrhough on how to do this. However, I couldn't seem to find one - but I found enough information to get myself through it, I thought. However, I'm running into problems just after I modprobe the sonypi driver. The "sudo modprobe sonypi" returns no errors, but when I attempt to compile sonypid, the "make" stage returns multiple errors. The errors are such that I don't want to try a "make install". (They say something about undefined variables, if my programming knowledge serves me correctly.) I skipped over this and went to installing sonykeyd, yet this won't work because sonypi is apparently not controlling the function keys. I know I am missing something, but I am unable to find it. Any help would be great. Thanks.
