Sony FS640/W Suse 9.3 no Xserver, blank screens

Hello

I just finished installing SuSE 9.3 on my Sony VAIO VGNFS640/W laptop, and all went well, until the end... it seems it didn't detect my screen information, and forced me to specify my X, Y size, so I did (323X and 202Y). I didn't like the 800x600 for my widescreen, so I set 1280x800 @ 70Hz (LCD), and tested it... but the screen goes blank, so I kill the server, and pick another one (generic VESA and LCD)... there wasn't a single one that worked... so I backed out, and figured I could live with the one Suse used in the install... so I let it choose that as a default, and finished the install... but I get no login screen, simply goes blank after the messages get to runlevel 5... so I ctrl-alt-F2 and get a text login, call up root... drop to runlevel 3 (init 3)... call up sax2... initializes, and when it gets to display... nothing. Normally, I can get into Sax2 like that to fix just about anything monitor related... but this baffles me... any ideas, anyone?

.:Jimmy:.

EDIT- I just reinstalled SuSE, and accepted the given configuration, and it still gives me a blank screen... still no luck on configuring anything... any ideas?

Check these two sites to see if anyone has successfully installed linux on your laptop.

http://www.linux-laptop.net/
http://www.tuxmobil.org/

You can also extract needed information from any other laptop using the same graphics card and similar screen...
