Quick question for you all. I'm a die hard Mac guy and I would like to look at a new handheld in the near future. Palm has dissapointed me on many levels and I won't even mention the "W" word.
The few Linux units that I've looked at (by Sharp) online have all been either reviewed as "so so" or are WAY too expensive.
What about installing OpenZaurus 3.54 on a Zaurus? Don't expect to pick any new ones up _too_ cheaply, but there should be some dirt cheap ones on sale on Ebay. Zauruses seem to have pretty good write ups, and as far as Irongeek's word goes - if he likes it, it's good enough for me
Yes, the zaurus is the best PDA I've used. I've got OpenZaurus 3.5.4RC on mine currently, and it works fine. I really like the fact that it's got a thumbboard. The thing is, mine's approx. 4 years old. I got it for $115 on ebay, search for SL-5500. It doesn't have wifi, but you can get a CF card to do that. However, with a CF wifi card, the battery life is supposed to tank. Something like 30 mins.
