Slackware sound set has failed

New(is)bie Question

I have installed vector linux (slackware based)) version 5.0 on my old Libretto laptop, everything was working fine including the sound. However after a incorect shutdown (I was trying to get APM to work) the sound no longer works.

Mplayer gives the following message:-

Linux RTC init error in ioctl (rtc_irq_set 1024): Permssion denied.

XMMS says "couldn't open audio"

I've tried rerunning alsaconf - it finds the sound card ok and conf's but the above error messages still arises

I haven't tred reinstalling the system 'cause the hard disk has to be removed to another PC to do this!!

PS can someone point out to me how to back up all this conf stuff

Thanks for the time

Brian

Detective work so far

Seems that this is a recurring subject on the web for slackware and ISA sound cards. I think that if the BIOS is set to auto conf the sound card and the hardware is changed so the settings of the ISA card change then the sound fails.

...still working to get my setup to work...
