Slackware 9.1 and Sound

I've installed Slackware 9.1 on my G732 ECS laptop. My soundcard (AC97) is found, and the modules are loaded with no problems. The results of lsmod are as follows:

snd-pcm-oss 37252 0
snd-mixer-oss 11992 1 [snd-pcm-oss]
snd-intel8x0 17156 1
snd-pcm 55904 0 [snd-pcm-oss snd-intel8x0]
snd-timer 13252 0 [snd-pcm]
snd-ac97-codec 37240 0 [snd-intel8x0]
snd-page-alloc 6004 0 [snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm]
snd-mpu401-uart 3136 0 [snd-intel8x0]
snd-rawmidi 12512 0 [snd-mpu401-uart]
snd-seq-device 3920 0 [snd-rawmidi]
snd 27460 0 [snd-pcm-oss snd-mixer-oss snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm snd-timer snd-ac97-codec snd-mpu401-uart snd-rawmidi snd-seq-device]
soundcore 3332 3 [snd]

When I try to play a sound file, it appears to be playing, but I just can't hear it. At first the mixer had the sound muted, but I unmuted it, and still no sound.

I had mandrake 9.2 installed before slackware, and sound was working fine, but I couldn't get my wireless network card working. I also have windows xp installed, and sound works fine there.

Thanks for any suggestions!

unless you save the sound settings, they do revert back to mute on reboot, might check that

Did you disable arts in KDE Control Center? Assuming you're running KDE.

re:

Hi all,

I had the same problem on Mandrake 9.2 what you have to do is change the sound card driver from snd0x8intel to iil8n_audio. That will fix the problem.
