Question SIS660 - Notebook - Monitor config probs

I have a Notebook. Specs are :

Celeron 1.4Ghz
512Mb DDR RAM
60Gb HDD
DVD/CD-RW Combi
SIS Chipset
15.2in Widescreen

I installed Suse 9.1 (i think, might be 3) on the machine. The computer boots up find, goes through GRUB ok.

Once the loading screen is complete and the computer runs into the log on screen the screen suddenly looses about an inch down the right hand side and the top half inch is replicated on the bottom.

The graphics card is an SiS660. It tells me 3D acceleration is not available on this card (although windows has no problems). I've tried to configure the card with Yast but to no avail...

Can someone help me, before i'm forced to return back to 100% Windoz on this machine

Dave

Mhm, maybe you should try another resolution or graphics card. Just to check you could also try the standard setting valled vesa to see if there are any changes. You can do this with something like "xf86config", but i dont know what the command will be on your system. When it comes to the 3D accelleration, then linux isnt so good at that, so you should try to get linux drivers from the graphic card`s official website. For example ATI has linux drivers to download.

all resolutions work, but do not fit the screen. VESA gives the same fault. Graphics card alternative is not really an option. With it being a Notebook the graphics chips is built onto the main board.

I will try suse 10 tonight (it should have finished the DL by then) see if that is any better.
