SimplyMEPIS or Ubuntu?

I've been running a few different live cds on my laptop, testing out their hardware support, and have decided that SimplyMEPIS 6.5 and Ubuntu 7.04 are the most supportive of the hardware I have. My laptop is an HP Pavillion dv2210us. Ubuntu supports all my laptop's extra buttons like the volume buttons, the media controls (play, stop, previous, next), and the tap to click feature of my track pad. SimplyMEPIS provided support of my graphics and my wifi, but none of the extra buttons work. Graphics is not actually an issue, because I have used Ubuntu before and could set that up. I either need to get the wireless support in Ubuntu, or get the extra button functionality in SimplyMEPIS. If anyone knows how to do this, I would greatly appreciate any help. I know people will try to suggest ndiswrapper for Ubuntu, but this laptop comes with Vista and HP does not have the XP wifi drivers on their site, therefore leaving me with no idea where to get the XP drivers to use with ndiswrapper. I'm open to using either distro, so if someone could explain how to get the functionality I'm looking for, that would be great. Please keep it in newbie terms for me; I have minimal experience with Linux.

Try pclinuxos as they have great hardware support as would recommend it over ubuntu and mepis any day.

What's your hardware specs?
What kind of wireless card and graphics chipset?

If you can try another live cd, I'd advice you to try it as for me,
it was easier to use and for newcomers to linux and had beautiful kde as default.

If you solved, could you explain how?
