Sharp Zaurus PDA
Hi,
I purchase a sharp zaurus SL-5600 PDA. I am unable to connect to it with Suse 9.0. It uses a USB port. Suse OS tell me it is a modem. The file transfer function will not work with Linux, but will work with Windows 2000. Any suggestion. |
It's kind of a pain, surprisingly, to get the Zaurus to sync under Linux. Probably the first thing to do would be install QTopioa Desktop if possible (and once again, it's a pain since they don't make binaries available for all Linux distros). You may also want to check out this howto; it's oriented more towards OpenZaurus, but it should be applicable if you're using the regular Zaurus software too.

wapcaplet,
I tryed to install QTopioa Desktop , but I did not have any luck. yes it is a pain. thanks for your suggestion. |
Wow! Wapcaplet, thanks for the link about configuring your Z for networking and NAT and DNS. I only have one computer but I didn't think I could use my Z as a networkable computer! This will give me lots of fun times configing a simple network.
I guess its true: the Z is just a small Linux computer. |
Heck yeah! If you have a wireless network card you can even walk around with Apache in your pocket, serving webpages to the world. If Linux can do it, the Z can do it too.
Though, mostly I just use mine as an address book and grocery shopping list :) |

Don't forget playing oggs :-) I got a cf 802.11b NIC for mine, now all I need is to install samba :-D |
wapcaplet, how are things in the Springs? Can't say that I miss the weather ;)
Not that I would be professing my age, but I remember Academy Blvd when it was a two lane road. :) I fooled with setting my Z up in Q but it was too much trouble (I did get it to work, but I promptly lost the config when I upgraded my desktop. D'oh!). Sharp could of done better. All I do now is simply use a card reader to read the flash card (hardly a hotsync, but it works well). Quote:
Nonetheless, I've been drooling over the SL-860... John |
yes the networking is great, when working around the house i stream my mp3's to it so i have an mp3 player that holds like 120 gig. cool stuff.
