sensitive to electro-smog, how much better is Linux?

I recently bought a new Dell Ispiron 2200 and just a couple of times at the internet cafe - my norton was deactivated, my window's fire wall was turned off, and the machine was like "radioactive" I am sensitive to these various electromagnetic fields. ...The Dell started to sound like a car that had problems with loose bands (transmission). I cut and burned a number of files untill the computer "stopped" doing whatever it was doing... but now it does not work quite right. Anyways - I only need a computer for the internet and for writing essays etc. I hear there are a lot of various kinds of versions of lionex... and I am not that much of a knowledgeable computer guy. So any advice for a rookie? I figure I need to just install some basic lionex system which will keep the electromagnetic radiation to a minimum.

I installed lionex on my e-machine (it was on sale) and nothing seems to work right - cd rom etc. I can start on that one I guess, and eventually learn how to set up my laptop correctly.

How do I get my E machine to play CD's properly? the pause, stop, eject are very inconsistant.

There really is a serious problem in North America, there are laws in Europe concerning what is 'safe' amount of electro-magnetic radiation. There is some very legitimate concern over this situation here in North America. If you are not feeling any ill effects - that does not mean you are not being harmed. Many people simply are not aware of the presence of electro magnetic radiation, and as well other natural occuring magnetic or radio wave lines that are all around us. This is something "everyone" seems to be treating as a joke - but this is a huge problem in our world.

In all seriousness...

I suspect that your laptop was not current with all of the service patches and updates to the OS, antispyware, firewall, Internet Explorer and antivirus applications. Connecting it to the internet in the cafe resulted in some kind of malicious Trojan using your laptop to spread its havoc.

An operating system is not going to prevent, decrease or shield EMF emissions.

We need more information if you want help. What version of linux, desktop and CD player applications are you running.

Now where did I put my AFDB...

Thank you for the reply. though I do think the less an operating system is doing, the less electromagnetic radiation it will produce. I am quite sure the source of the problem was some sort of virus or trogan, but the real source of the problem I think is that there is no privacy laws keeping various legitamate and non legitamate "gatherers" out of our lives. The machine I use now is an old beat up 400 mega hurt computer with 128 ram. There is nothing that can really run on this computer without causing it to just "freeze up" or at least that is the theory... as for my Dell (the one that went radioactive) it is now two months old - had Norton Anti Spy and Anti Virus, but from what I understand is that the more popular a program, the more people are hacking at that program. For Norton it is simply turned off somehow - and that is what happened to mine, after less than an hour - and as well the first thing I did was to get the updates.

Finding something in the fringe seems to be what I am thinking about, something that is good, but that not too many people are useing - something that is simply not to profitable to try to develop a hacking process for, as it simply is not worth the effort. Who knows Norton may do well to put out 999 versions of different anti spy and anti virus programs.

For my e-machine I do not know what the C-D rom is or how to find out. It is a E-T3990 and only a few months old. I have taken a few bouts at learning computer stuff, but don't know a whole lot. It does work, but there are some definate problems with it. It has 256 ram and runs at a 2.4 gigahurts. I installed ubuntu version 5.04 for intelx86. I am thinking of using my backup disks for my e-machine and just reinstalling xp or I have an old 2002 xp I could install, or possibly if I knew how I could partition my e-machine and use both systems - but to do this - I would need to know how - any site that teaches this? - I can pay for some course on the internet if there is some thing that would help. your welcome to suggest something.

Thanks again.
