Secondary Video Output

Good day. I have a Compaq Presario 3000 laptop. I was using Mandriva, but recently decided to try Ubuntu. I would like to connect my laptop to a KVM switchbox, but I don't know how to set it up to have the monitor connector display video. I want it to mirror what is on the laptop. Any help for either distrobution would be appritiated. Thank you.

Usually there is a fn button and on my compaq the F5 button has a symbol of a monitor. Use the fn+F5 combination to get video to display through the vga connector. My laptop has three options that it scrolls through when you keep pressing that combination

Laptop LCD Mode - Uses the laptop LCD only
VGA Monitor Mode - Uses the vga port on the back of my laptop
VGA/LCD Combo Mode - Video is displayed on the laptop LCD and through the vga port
