Review the models that IBM, HP and Dell sell with Linux on them.. if you can buy it from them with Linux on it, then you should be able to load any distro you want on it with a high degree of success.
Why I shouldn't buy with ati on it?...Is there will be a problem for linux to be installed with ati....one that in my list now was a compaq with amd turion 64bit and ati 3200hd i think...is it compatible with any linux distro?
Many of those 'ATI doesn't work' threads ae pretty old. I believe support has improved greatly.
That being said, personally given the choice, I would take a nVidia controller over ATI, because that is what I have always used and Linux support has been awesome. I've got nVidia cards from TNT2 through Geforce 6800 and they have all worked flawlessly in Linux. One of these days I'll upgrade my system so I can move past the AGP limitation of the 6800 cards (nVidia doesn't make anything newer for AGP anymore.. )
hi everybody....after some research....for cost efficient and maximum functionality...I got an acer aspire4935...with dolby home theater...and mobile intel graphics media accelerator....right I installed it with ubuntu intrepid...is there any suggestion on how can I use these hardware with ubuntu...with wine for all its empowering technology or what???thanx for all your opinion guys...
Thanx for the advice guys...thanx to farslayer...I tried the procedure and it came out the same thing as you shown...
this notebook come with a dolby home theatre; I want to make use of its hardware efficiently...is it the default of intrepid come with a utility for this hardware....if not, where can I find the utility...and is there any linux utility for acer aspire 4935 or with similar function??....
one more thing, I think the speakers doesn't work efficiently because the sound doesn't loud enough; when I use audaciuos the sound was even less with rythmbox....is it because of the different driver for sound card....it seem in the audacious it use pulse audio and for the rythmbox I think the ALSA....any comment???
what is the difference between those huh guys....???
