Sager NP5790 Force. What Do You Think?

Hello all,

I'm on the market to buy a new laptop soon, since my old one was taken from me at gunpoint (I live in Washington, DC - 'nuff said). I'm thinking of getting the Powernotebooks.com Sager NP5790 Force, standard configuration:

http://www.powernotebooks.com/configure.php?special=476

Intel® Core™2 Duo T7300 2.0GHz Processor w/4MB L2 On-die cache - 800MHz FSB
2GB (2 SODIMMS) DDR2/667 Memory
Combo Dual Layer DVD +/-R/RW CD-R/RW Drive w/Softwares
Built-in Intel® PRO/Wireless 4965 802.11a/g/n
Built-in Bluetooth Wireless

In talking with the vendor, I understand it's based on the Clevo 570RU, but I'm not finding a lot on the 'Net about its Linux compatibility. I plan to run Kubuntu on it. What do y'all think?

TIA,
rolandjdc

Never used that model but have used a few Clevo based notebooks and both worked well under Linux. From the specs the only thing that may not work is the 4 in 1 card reader. The rest great over all. If you get this yet us know how well it works and what you installed. There is a forum on this site with some clevo info. http://www.xtremenotebooks.com/ . The one I am thinking about is on this site and is the Nova 989w under AMD based notebooks.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for writing back!

I checked out your post over there; it looks like you've smoked 'em

I contacted Powernotebooks, and they're digging around, trying to find out who made the card reader. Armed with that knowledge, I can make a final decision.
