Running Ubuntu Live CD on a Macbook with a busted hard drive

Hi,
My Macbook has been refusing to boot and keeps displaying a grey screen. When I tried booting from the Mac OS install discs, it does not detect a destination for installing the OS. I assume that means that the hard drive is bust.
I have managed to run the Ubuntu Live CD on the system. However it does not detect the wireless network. But the command lspci does display the wireless card. Is this because the drivers for the wireless card is located in the hard drive? If so, is there any way I can get the wireless card to work while I am waiting for a new hard drive to be delivered?
Thanks
Samsom

lspci just identifies the chipset for your wireless card in your Macbook. You might need to load the firmware for your card for it to work if not enabled by a module. The kernel is usually pretty good at including drivers but can't cover all cards. You will need to post your lspci readout so members cansee what kind of card you are using. Also what version of Ubuntu and a Terminal readout and post of uname -r.

Good Luck.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I managed to sort it out. As it turned out, it was not the busted hard drive why the wireless card refused to work. As you said, the drivers for macbooks need to be installed separately. There were clear instructions for the same in the Official Ubuntu site.
Working fine now. Thanks again.
