Root access on netbook NEXT ONEtplus

Hello,
I've just got hold of a Next ONEtplus netbook (Chinese cheapo, I believe made by Elonex). I've played with several of these before and after dumping Wince I usually give up on trying to install Debian and go for Android. Android is OK but it's really designed for a touch-screen environment.
This little thing has a distro of some sort pre-installed (Kernel V.08 or so it says), complete with AbiWord, Sylpheed etc.
I can't get a terminal and I don't know what distro it is (Linpus??).
I haven't had much luck finding out which processor is used either, I'm assuming a WM8505 like others I've had.
Does anyone out there have any experience of this little beastie?
All comments gratefully received.

You'll find the instructions on getting root access here: http://elonexone.blogspot.com/2008/0...lonex-one.html

Thanks,
That site led me to http://www.littlelinuxlaptop.com/software/Xterm.htm which gave me the patch to get a terminal on screen. The terminal is of limited use to me at present because most of the commands react with "not found" including logout. Exit simply brings one back to the "Press enter to activate" line. I have to switch off to get out.
I suspect that I may be venturing over the edge of my capabilities here but I'll keep trying. The little red netbook works very well as it is but maybe I'm a control freak.
Thanks again for your input.
