RHEL image

Hello team,

I have a Toshiba laptop with RHEL (4.2 i think) OS. I also have a software (GeoFrame 4.4) with valid license.

Is it possible to get an image or something like that of my Toshiba laptop and run it on a virtual machine on another laptop to use Geoframe?

Regards,
Pejman

RHEL4.2 is basically not supported any longer
the last rhel4 was 4.9 ,and that is on EXTRA extended lifesupport
-- as in you have to pay red hat extra to support it .

can you double check what is installed
run this and post the output
Code:
cat /etc/redhat-release

John,

This is the output : Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS release 4 (Nahant Update 6).

So, is there any software or whatever to get a back up file or image from this OS and run it on another machine?

Thanks.

You can use clonezilla
or dd to make an image of the disk

but if you do not have a support contract then you do not have the last security updates installed
and rhel4 is old
it was supposed to be End Of Life about 1.5 years ago but red hat added an EXTRA 3 years of extended lifesupport to it
and in about 1.5 years it will be unsupported

Try clonezilla if you must use RHEL 4. Clonezilla is very easy to use and works quite well more often than not.

You can use the most recent stable image.

Tutorial like this may be?

I found a document on how to get a disk image from one machine and restore it on another machine using clonezilla and VMWARE.
https://collab.pexus.net/Knowledge%2..._download/file

I can successfully manage to get the image (savedisk) but I can't restore it.

But, I can't restore it manually because after logging on as root (user@debian:~$) the command "fdisk -l" is not working (command not found).
When I try to restore it using GUI (start clonezilla) it is giving me this error: "unable to find target partition sda1"
