RH9 on a Presario X1030

Installing RH9 on a X1030..X1000 series laptop. Installs fine. Generic X video drive works o.k. Would like a better one.

I cant seem to get the built-in 802.11b to work. Should RH detect my wireless automatically? What do I need to do to get this running?

Also the winmodem with this laptop isnt working either. Doesnt detect it.

Any ideas??
Thanks.

Go to Linux on laptops to see if your particular model is listed. That page will give info on tweaks others have done to make the model work.

Intel 2100 802.11b WLAN

I have successfully configured my wireless interface using the appropriate Windows driver and 'Driverloader' wrapper from Linuxant.

www.linuxant.com

In the course of installing the driver, my machine kept crashing, but I later found it was installed ok anyway.

You can just add the line 'alias eth1 driverloader' to your /etc/modules.conf file when you have the driver compiled correctly.

Running RH9 on a Compaq X1000. Used the Red Hat network config utility to set up secure (WEP enabled) network connection to my Windows 98 desktop.

The modem is an Agere AC'97 soft modem. There is a suitable driver that can be obtained by using the following link

http://www-306.ibm.com/pc/support/si...cid=MIGR-46258

The driver is suitable for Think Pad T40 and similar notebooks, but works for Compaq X1000 series machines as well. For some strange reason Agere, don't seem to have publicised it much. You have to go through the IBM site first.
