I am installing RH 9.0 (Pink Tie 9.0) on Toshiba Tecra S w/uxga and ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 (M9) ( I installed Mandrake 9.1 but the Mandrake 9.1 video drivers did not work). The Radeon has a 32mb memory.

RH 9.0 recognized the ATI M9 during the installation. It did not select the
high res screen values.

Instead the default values selected for the video installation were 800x600, 800x600, and 24 bit. I changed the valus to Generic 1600x1200 laptop, ATI M9 1600x1200 and 24 bit.

I finished the install of RH 9.0 and ran into a problem with L 99 99 99 99 being displayed when I restarted the machine. So I used the boot floppy to reboot the machine by pressing F-12 to select the boot device and selecting the floppy disk and got into KDE at a 1600x1200 resolution which is what I wanted. I thought I was home free...except for the 99 99 problem.

I installed grub to fix the 99 99 display at boot problem. And then rebooted the machine. Then I selected Pink Tie 9.0 (Redhat 9.0) and linux booted. When the login screen appeared the screen was scrambled. This was the same problem that Mandrake 9.1 had.

I have read a lot of notes on the installation problems of laptops with the ATI M9 chips.
I noticed some people have used the VESA driver which results in poor performance and no access to the cool features of the chip. And others haveadded different modules to the kernel but the modules seemed to be for the desktop version of the 9000.

ATI does not offer any Linux drivers for the M9. Has any one figured out how to get the
M9 to work with the uxga screen in 1600x1200 using the 2D and 3D graphics modes using a driver built for the M9? I am willing to use a different Linux distribution if they support the M9 and the Intel Wireless features?

Any suggestions?
