I have a cousin that accidentaly installed Fedora core 5 on my laptop. Now it seems that whenever i try to boot an ubuntu cd or Windows XP cd I get something called linux grub appears. How can I remove Fedora and install Ubuntu? If not Ubuntu then Windows XP.
grub is a boot loader. it loads your operating system. i guess grub must have overwritten your MBR.
What is the original Operating System in your laptop?Windows XP or Ubuntu? If its Windows XP and you just wanted it back to normal then its very easy. first boot the Windows XP cd (remember to select the cdrom as your primary boot device). When it has booted, you'd be given three options. Choose the system recovery one (i think it's the one at the most bottom). You'll enter a command line environment which will require your Windows XP administrator password. Enter the command "fixmbr" at the command line. Exit and that's it. Your Windows XP will be back.
If you wanted to install Ubuntu (and Ubuntu also uses grub), just run the Ubuntu installtion cd (remember to set cdrom as the primary boot device) and make sure that you set grub to overwrite the previos MBR after installation.
Very funny, w3bd3vil........no, i mean it LOL. I discovered that my cd was a bit scratched, I had the help of a linux pro, who just graduated from computer networking. I have it working now, but thanks anyways everybody, problem solved.
