Relational DBs on Palm and conversion to Linux

I have been trying for the past few days to find a solution that a client has given me: He wants to be able to use a database on his PalmOS device (Sony Clie' series, don't know which one), and then sync and have his entries magically go from there to a pdf file. The way his data is set up pretty much requires a relational database, and I have no problem setting up either a PostgresSQL or a MySQL database for him and using perl to get from there to the document.

My problem is, though I've seen some relational databases for Palm, they're all commercial(not a big problem), and seem to have no way for a linux box to convert from them to even a CSV file. Am I missing something, and is there a way that I can find the missing link? I do have a windows machine (dual boot on my laptop), if I would have to install to the palm from there.

Anyone have an idea?
