reinstalling grub

I have installed windows over linux and the boot loader is gone. i have a live cd of 9.04 but the one installed is koala. so can i use the 9.04 cd to reinstall grub for koala?

If you're trying to get grub back for koala, then google "Super Grub Disk". It's probably the easiest way to fix, repair, or reinstall grub.

You could restore Grub with the Ubuntu CD, but that would re-install the whole OS too, so the Grub Super Disk is the best.

Have a look at this chapter in a very good GRUB2 tutorial. It lists Super Grub but also how to recover GRUB2 without it.
