redhat problem.......


when i try to install redhat on a portition w/ winxp..
i cant get it to boot on reboot... but when it askes me where i live i cant move or preace any "key" ..
i dunno if i need to config in expert mod or if i just got a bad copy ....
if ya can help ....

please try to be more descriptive with both your title and problem description. That way we can better help you.

Are you saying that you cant proceed in the OS installation because you cannot imput anything when it asks what time zone you are in? or are you in the BIOS? give some more details.

well when i turn on my comp... and try to install redhat it asks me if i want to install ,upgrade, or rescue, and i press enter to install. it goes trough the stage fine..........but when it askes the next Q? {im not sure wut it is} i cant press the enter key to prossed .....

clearly you have some sort of compatibility issue where the OS is not
detecting the keyboard controller or the usb controller.

if you are using a usb keyboard, try a ps/2. If not, i would circumvent the problem and try another distro.

ok wut one do you suggest ........ i have mandrake 9.2 and the only prob. is that the pcmcia card cant be enabled ........i have to config it to not load every time i use it ......other then that ive used Knoppix and it work fine but i dont know how to install it to my hard drive.... if you can tell me how to put knoppix on to my hard drive so i can boot up before the ram kickes in .. that would be kewl ....

ok dood, so first things first, are you using a usb mouse??? please answer.

I'm pretty sure you cannot install knoppix on a hard disk - nor do I think they want you to.

Mandrake is a cousin of and most similar to Redhat - Id go that route.... very easy install, and good hardware compatibility. Ive had hardware issues several times in the past with Mandrake.

nope im not using a usb anything .
i have a laptop 2100us presario ..... amd chip......
is there a way in mandrake, that i can use my wifi card.....???

ooops... the pcmcia should have been a tip off....

wifi? I havnt a clue.... download Deadhat.... it has great software compatibility...
